Arrival at Campsite and Camp Setup

Choosing the camping site

It is important to choose the perfect spot. It could be a night mare if you need to move to another spot once you have pitched your tent and everything has been organised. Walk around and decide where you want to pitch your tent:

Preferably on a high spot save from flooding, if it is summer time chances are good it might rain.

Choose a shady spot and ensure that you have ample shade during most of the day especially in the afternoon.

Walk around and explore, see where the amenities are and try to get your spot as close as possible to the ablution facilities especially if you have small children.

Setting up Camp

Take care you do not pitch the tent to close to your neighbour it could have serious implications. You might snore and the neighbour cannot sleep or the neighbours are playing load music and irritates everyone with their load talking.

When you pitch the tent make sure it is properly secure and save you do not want to wake up in the middle of the night and realise that your tent has collapsed or is halfway blown away.

Arrange your camping accessories such as the chairs, stove, tables, cooking utensils and BBQ in a way that it is comfortable, save and within reach.

Ensure that the fire place is not to close to the tent sparks might blow out and the tent could catch fire.

Do not dig trenches around your tent it is against the rules of most camping sites. It is also a not a pleasant sight for other campers that want to use the site after you have left.

Get familiar with the camping rules. It makes the stay for you and other camper enjoyable.

Camping Tips

Keep noise to a minimum. Most camp grounds have quiet hours between 10 pm and 8 am.

Keep your camping site and the camping grounds clean.

Only use the designated fire places they are arranged that way for a reason

When using the ablution facilities leave it as you found it clean and tidy. You would not want to use a untidy or dirty shower or bathtub.

Wash your dishes in the facility specially made for that purpose or a wash basin and not at the nearby tap it can cause odours that are unpleasant to all campers.

Remember to take your fellow campers in consideration with everything you do.
