You Might Want To Consider The BMX Trick

2016/7/25 11:42:48

Do you watch BMX Trick riders? If so you most likely hold your breath as you see the spirited daredevils do remarkable twists and jumps; BMX stands for Bicycle Moto Cross. The bike was created for transportation, but the BMX was built for trick riding.

Each year the sport grows in popularity. The national championships are covered by the major news media. BMX riders are in their teens, and male for the most part. These teenage boys are too young to think about death. They believe they are going to live forever. They have to think this in order to perform somersaults fort feet in the air with abandon. There is no time to consider death or even serious injury.

They think instead about out performing the previous rider who flew off the ramp, or the last guy to spin in the sky while standing on his bicycle seat. This is not a sport for the timid. One brave soul, if brave is the word, is shown on an internet video site, launching from a ramp and travels through the air from a three story building to another. He has to clear eighty feet of distance between the buildings to avoid a three story fall.

Is this rational? Should there be a law against it; would you let your teenage son try this feat? People have challenged death ever since the wheel was invented. And if teens did not have BMX bikes to challenge death and disaster with, they would find another vehicle for their excitement.

Some would say that video games are responsible for teens wanting thrills and excitement in their lives. But even if they had no blood and violence in digital form on their computer screens teenage boys would still need to prove to their friends that they are fearless.

In some African cultures, teenage boys must leap from sixty foot towers to prove their manliness. A vine is attached to their ankle which breaks their fall before they hit the ground. Sometimes the vine is a little too long though. Or the boy is taller than the last one to jump. One jump is all it takes to prove manhood is their culture.

Perhaps we should have the same kind of ritual for these teenagers who need to prove their manhood by riding a little bike through the air. But until then, BMX will continue to make bikes and teenage boys will ride them through the air in order to prove they are BMX champions.
