You need to consider many different factors before buying a mountain bike. You will first need to have a good idea on the type of bike you need. You should know about the features you cannot do without. Take the time to learn the different models if you are not familiar with what is available on the market. The legwork you do in advance will make getting the right bike a lot easier.

There are a range of styles and cost points for mountain bikes. Know how much you want to spend and stick within that budget. If you want to control your costs, this is the best way to go. You will also be better equipped not to let a salesperson talk to into buying a bike you cannot afford.

When you have a price range in mind, shop in stores that carry that range. You do not want to end up in a bike shop that carries lines completely outside of the budget you already set. The larger chain bike stores will have a broader price range.

Each rider has there own unique style so it is important to choose the right bike. It is also important to know how you will be riding your bike and the type of environment and trails you will frequent. The bikes are designed for different riding situations. You may need a race bike if speed is a major factor. Or you may need a bike that can handle rough terrain.

The use of your bike is critical to know when it comes to shopping for a certain type of suspension. Mountain bikes that come with all around suspension can be rather costly. You should know exactly want you need.

You should have two or three bikes that you need to decide between before finalizing your decision. You will need to make comparisons on some of the major parts of the bikes. See which one offers the best for the price. You definitely want to make sure you have the right bike when it comes to the wheels, handling and comfort. You will not be able to compare every single component on the bike but you should at least take note of the major parts.

Since mountain bikes can cost a lot of money, it is a good idea to buy one during off peak times. Any time during the winter or fall would be a could time to buy a bike. But if you happen to need one during the peak seasons which are the spring and summer then you should look for any sales on bikes. The major bike stores are known to have frequent sales and discounts so this might be a good place to look. You can also look on the internet for any special price deals.

Buying a mountain bike takes some legwork but it is worth it in the long run. You want to do as much research as you can, in advance, to make sure you are getting the bike that you need. And before you make your final purchase ride the bike and make sure it is comfortable and handles correctly. This can be a major investment and you want to make absolutely sure you are getting what you need in a mountain bike.
