Great Places to Ride Your Bike in New Hampshire

2016/7/25 11:43:30

New Hampshire is a winter wonderland for ski enthusiasts in the cold months and those ski areas are used as great trails for mountain bikers in summer. The lifts are operational so you do not have to experience the steep climbs if you want. Here are some of the top trails the state has to offer for cyclists.

At Bear Brook State Forest by Allentown, there are over 100 miles of trails to try! There is something for all here. There is an extensive network so it is recommended to get a map from the guard shack to safely guide you. Experienced bikers can go through awesome singletrack, brutal climbs, wicked descents, rocks, and if you are down for it the adjacent Catamount Trail. There is a $2.50 fee to gain entrance into the park, but you can ride all day long and you will never go through the same trail twice!

The trails at Drummer Hill near Keene have about 90 miles of track to choose from. There is something for every skill level. However, make sure you have somebody with you because it's very easy to get lost. Avoid going right after a rain because these trails can be quite difficult when muddy. Because of the remoteness of the area, it's a good place to practice your skills.

Fort Rock by Exeter has nearly 20 miles of trails to try. There are plenty of choices in the terrain to give something for everyone. There are some fun technical challenges like bridges, logs, swampy areas, jumps, and more. You may purchase a map for $2.50 or just have a good time checking the trails out. These trails are well kept and a lot of fun!

The FOMBA Single-track Trails near Auburn are 15 miles of pure fun! These trails are tight with connecting fire roads. You can expect to experience logs, drops, rocks, and much more that will test out your suspension like never before! If you haven't had enough here there are also about 30 miles of trails adjacent to this area as well.

Rattle Snake Hill near Concord has 15 miles of steep and technical track. There are lots of rocks, roots, switchbacks, bunny hopping, and to top all that off you have 2-3 thousand-foot drops on one side of the trail! These drops end up in the quarries below so be very careful!

The Salem Town Forest is where many riding teams choose to practice. However, it is also an excellent place to ride and practice your skills even if you are not part of a team. Know that the trails are not well marked but there are many locals around that can help guide you if you need directions. These trails are loads of fun!

New Hampshire has a wealth of terrains that are mountainous, forested, coast, and rocky and this makes it a grand place for biking. There are strong winters and tropical storms from time to time, and so the best time to ride is in the summer months and early fall. Have a great time!
