GMC Denali Road Bike Review

2016/7/25 15:05:59

GMC Denali Road is a nice looking bicycle and since road bicycles are pretty much exclusively sold in bike stores, many people will assume it cost a LOT more than it really did. A good friend asked if I invested “over $1,000? on it. Excellent gears, I hit 38.5mph on a downhill with some gear remaining, and managed 32.4mph on level ground with a tailwind (measured using handlebar mounted GPS receiver). I can cruise overall in the 16-20mph range for the first hour.
I have no troubles with build level of quality. The welds look great, the bicycle looks reliable, the seat tube fit excellent. I was amazed how well the frame fits my 6’0? size.

My first opinion was that I identified it uncomfortable to get to get to down to use the brakes. I got used to that quickly. My second feeling was how effortless it was to go fast on this bike. The 63cm, black and silver Denali, rides definitely smooth. I will say that this bicycle is really excellent for the value. I am so amazed with the quality for fewer than two hundred dollars.

The wheels and tires are quite narrow and 28 inches. Combine that with the aluminum body, shimano derailleur and it works incredibly well.

GMC Denali Road bike rides tight and looks really great. I discovered a specific bicycle that looked totally used up that the vendor required the price of three of the GMCs for. I decided that I may possibly have three new bikes, back to back for the amount of one bike that I wouldn’t trust to get me around the block. I got the Denali.

The seat is comfy for a road bicycle, and the Denali pedals easily, making long rides a breeze. The kickstand is a welcomed improvement (and easily-removed for those who balk at kickstands).

If you would like a true great buy, have some tools/practical experience and are willing to tinker, have the Denali. It’s a hoot to cruise! The gear shifting appears to be fine overall to me, and conveniently placed on the handle bars. Because the bike is good aluminum, it is pretty light and incredibly durable. But a caveat emptor is that it is a little bit heavier but stronger than other standard (bianchi, trek, giant) commuter road bicycles since those tend to possess a skinnier aluminum frame while this one seems to follow Ford Motor Company’s “built tough” motto. (Lighter frame materials would be titanium, carbon, and some kind of composite: carbon and titanium body bikes WILL cost you over $1500 new, at minimum) Another factor people will easily miss is that the forks, unlike the frame, is made of steel so they’re weightier than typical-but this is because while aluminum is lighter than steel, it is also stiffer which would create for a bone-jarring ride; the only real solution to this is to get 200-300$ all carbon.

Overall I am incredibly pleased with the bike GMC Denali. You just can’t beat the selling price. The bicycle is lightweight, has very great gearing, and can be incredibly fast. It goes better than it stops. Replacing several key elements will improve the bicycle drastically. It is not perfect, but when you factor in the price, it is a great offer.
