Want to learn how to make a Freestyle BMX practice bike? Most bike enthusiasts find riding BMX a rather memorable moment there could ever be. If you are keen on excelling in BMX riding, you will have to practice several hours a week with great amount of dedication. This implies that you will fall and crash a couple of times before you get the hang of it. If you do not wish to sacrifice your BMX bike then you can get hold of an older bike just for the practice sessions. It will help you perfect your biking skills too.

Things You'll Need:

  • BMX bike
  • Platform type pedals
  • handlebars (Low-profile )
  • Pegs
  • Grease
  • Tool set (Complete Park)
  • Shop rags
  • Peg washers
  • Gyro
  1. Get a BMX bike stock having a specific frame called freestyle. While choosing the bike choose the one with reliability and strength. This holds more importance than a frame that’s light in weight. With constant biking, your bike, that’s meant just for practice, will be exposed to a lot of battering.
  2. Fit in a gyro to make a Freestyle BMX practice bike. Gyro is a device that keeps the cables from becoming mixed up, enabling the handle bars to spin freely in a complete round movement. To fit a gyro, it is necessary to take out the handlebars in the bike, to start with.
  3. Now take out the locking washer and the bolt that holds the forks. Take out the forks and the bearing with the headset cup.
  4. Position the gyro over the tube of the head and place the forks back on the headset cup. Fit the bearings again.
  5. Install the forks again and fit the washer. Fit the bolt before you add the locking plate.
  6. Replace the handlebars using a set of handlebars (low-profile) while attaching the gyro. Choose handlebars with lesser center of gravity as it helps in navigation as you spin or move the bike at a smaller area. Before adding the new handlebars to the Freestyle BMX practice bike with the stick like extension, add on adequate amount of oil or grease to the stem and forks.
  7. Fit in the stem inside the forks. Change it to a setting that suits the rider’s height. Once you find a comfortable position, tighten the bolts again using an X pattern to tighten it uniformly.
  8. Allow the gyro cables to come first and after that allow the cables starting from the brake come at a lower level. Fit in the brake cables inside the levers over the handlebars. Run them on to the upper portion of gyro.
  9. Fit in the lower brake cable inside the lower portion of the gyro. Now make it go to the brakes at the rear. Join it with the brakes, considering any loosening of the cables. Change it suitably.
  10. Fit the platform type pedals to make a Freestyle BMX practice bike. They are awesome for new bikers as they enable having a lot of space for keeping the foot. They also enable you to remove the foot without them really pulling over the cages. You can also attach to the sides of the pedals. The pedals should have an L or R written at the far side on the pedal. The letters stand for the part of the crank it is connected with. Just remove the pedals, with the help of a wrench. Fit in the new platform type pedals.
  11. Fit in one of the pegs. Freestyle BMX practice bikes usually consist of four pegs. They are utilized for sliding and grinding. Pegs extend to the far side of the bike’s axles, on the back as well as the front wheels. To attach your pegs, disconnect the axle washers and nuts by moving them counterclockwise using a driver and socket set. Move the peg right onto the axle, with the help of washers if required. Attach the nut of the axle over the socket driver, with the help of a driver and an extension. Now attach the nut again by moving it clockwise. Repeat the same steps for all the four pegs.
