How To Restore Vintage BMX Bikes

2016/7/25 16:06:56

By keeping some basic guidelines in mind, you can learn about how to restore vintage BMX bikes. No matter if you plan on using the bike or simply want to put it on display, it is important that the vintage BMX bike is in proper working order.

  1. Clean the vintage BMX bike. This is probably the most important step you must take before beginning to actually restore the vintage BMX bike. Having a bike that is clean will not only make it easier to evaluate what type of work needs to be done on the bike, but will also allow for greater ease when actually making the repairs.
  2. Evaluate the vintage BMX bike, and determine the manufacturer. If you are familiar with vintage BMX bikes, you may be able to identify the bike yourself. Be aware that very old bikes didn't always have easy to find distinguishing labels and therefore, you may need to take the bike into an antique dealer who specializes in identifying bikes or at least dealing with sporting equipment.
  3. Start creating a list in order to determine how much work needs to be done to restore the vintage BMX bike. Again, if you are an experienced biker, you may be able to look at the bike and tell right away what type of work that needs to be done. If you are not as experienced in working with bikes, find a reputable bike dealership. They should be able to provide you with some guidance on what needs to be repaired, and how to fully restore it. Good luck!
