Walleye Fishing Tactics

Walleye are a different breed of fish. You may catch them from time to time but without walleye fishing tactics it will be rare to have a great walleye day. When it comes to freshwater fishing walleye are probably about the hardest fish to catch except maybe next to sturgeon.

Walleye are very tricky to catch but once you take some time you will understand and be much better at catching them.

Once you get your finger and expertise on walleye fishing tactics all will become much easier when it comes to catching this fish.

The early bird catches the worm is very true except in this case its the early bird catches the walleye. Walleye are the type of fish that eat early in the morning, late in the evening and through out the night. Im sure by now you have figured out fishing for walleye in the middle of the day wont usually work out real well. Just like anything else. There is always an exception to a rule and sometimes during the day you can have a good run of catching walleye.

The next important thing when it comes to walleye fishing tactics is presentation. Walleye very rarely have any interest in fast moving bait or food. Walleye like to be able to stalk their prey. That is why my best technique ever for walleye is a slow bounce on the bottom of the water. Once you perfect the slow bounce your numbers will greatly increase.

Walleye are a fish of patience. If they are unsuree of what they are looking at they will continue to look until they are satisfied what they are looking at is food.

You have to learn to feel the tap when it comes to walleye. They will just lightly suck in your hook and they will just sit there. Many times if you dont feel the light tap you will pull it right out of their mouths without you ever knowing they were there.

When it comes to walleye fishing tactics in small rivers you want to find the holes. Too many people work to hard at casting as far away as they can, reeling in and not catching a thing. Many a time I have found holes holding walleye 15 feet in front of me. Just a light cast is usually enough to get your hook to where the walleye may be.

All in all its about fishing. Of course your ultimate goal is catching a fish. The fact of the matter is if you keep on fishing you will eventually catch more fish then you ever know what to do with.

Just remember a bad day of fishing is always better then a good day at work.
