How To Choose Artificial Fishing Lures – For Fresh Water Angling

There are many types, colors and shapes of hard or soft baits to choose from and often when confronted with all these beautiful options you can become a little confused trying to make a good choice. If you read and believe all the sales hype found written about these products then you may just as well close your eyes and grab the first lures your hand comes in contact with. According to the manufacturers you are guaranteed fantastic fishing results. As we all know it’s never that easy.

Be Successful

Different lures and artificial baits are made for anglers using various angling techniques, tackle and equipment. To be successful at catching great fish you must be adaptable and ready to adjust to the changing angling conditions on the water as they unfold. Therefore you need a good selection of lures in your tackle box when going fishing. If you do not know which ones to select speak to other local fishermen or the sales people at the local fishing store. You can also go online and choose the most reviewed baits at the bigger angling outlets until you are more experienced and ready to make a more personal selection. I find that those multiple packs of different baits although less expensive don’t really work simply because you end up using only a few of them.

Luck?

How often does it happen that even though everyone is using the same tackle and baits only one person seems to get most of the bites while the rest of us can only look on with bewilderment and envy. I often get told that luck has nothing to do with it, but I’m not so sure. Recently I was fishing with a friend and we were using the same tackle and bait. We also cast the bait into the same fishing hole within a few feet of each other. He caught 7 beautiful snapper while I managed to land only ONE average size one. Not only that but he had many more bites than me. When we went out on the boat a few weeks later the roles were reversed and it was me that came home with a huge smile on my face. Luck?

Many Choices

For fresh water fishing either from the shore or a boat with a trolling motor you have a choice of hard bait plastic lures, soft bait plastic lures, spinner bait and jigs, swim baits, pan fish etc. It does appear that there are some special lures out there that do get fish very excited and give many fishermen good and consistent results. A mixed catch of bass, crappie, perch, pike, catfish and many more are mentioned.

Last Chance

So before winter arrives and you pack away your fishing gear, get some fancy looking lures and then go cast a line, hopefully catching a big one. If successful this memory will continue to bring a smile on your face, helping you get through those long winter evenings in front of a warm fire as you wait for the next fishing season to arrive.
