Fishing in Sturgeon Creek

My adventures in fishing takes me to some exotic and remote places at times, however quite often within a short distance andwithin the same neighborhood, there can still be found an angler's delight which is the case for this specific body of water. For an after work or quick Saturday morning quick fishing excursion with limited time and that ever desire to cast or drop a lure, this creek fills that need.

This creek feeds into the Assiniboine River that is filled with many of the Manitoba fish species from cat fish, walleye, perch, sauger, crappies, carp, chub, goldeye, bass, you name it, of all sizes, they are there.

What's really special is that the creek has become fairly clean and clear with the conscientious effort over the past 10+ years from the Manitoba Conservation projects. Now, the creek is set with tiered levels and fish ladders enabling all the fish species to flourish. As I was standing near the edge casting hard baits, I could clearly see through the water with many fish over a foot in size,  swimming to  the bait and checking it out!!  I could see saugers and walleye at this particular time when a Northern Pike jumped at the bait and bite into it and he was hooked. Sweet!

One thing to be warned is there are natural sand, mud, rocks and fallen trees due to the recent high waters, therefore snags are inevitable,  I am not immune to this and snagged it well, a friend throw my rod to the other side to get a better angle to unhook the snagged crank bait, manged to unhook ! however due to the throw and the Abu Garcia reel's handle hitting a rock, bent the cam making it tough to reel in every 3rd revolution, effectively rendering another reel of mine to reel heaven. Hmmm.
