Southeast Florida - Week 3 Report - April 2012

During the week the wind and seas kicked up and storms rolled in to finish the week. Those that found a window or overcame the weather found some good fishing. Offshore on the troll blackfin tuna, scattered dorado, kingfish were in 110-600 feet. Dorado were in the deeper ranges. As the wind picked up so did the sailfish bite. Live baits on a kite or ballon produced good results. The swordfish bite has been consistent both day and night. On the reefs and wrecks, in 50-240 feet, yellowtail and mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, kingfish, spanish mackeral, cobia, bonito, BFT, amberjack, grouper, and sharks were there. Sardines, cut bait, live pilchards, and jigs were getting hit.

Nearshore along the beaches, piers, inlets and Intracoastal waterway, bluefish, spanish mackeral, pompano, bluerunners, jacks, permit, sharks and some cobia were in the mix. Cut baits, live shrimp, pilchards, aritificals, spoons and swimbaits were producing some nice fish. Snook were in the ICW around the docks and bridges. In the inlets snook and occassionl tarpon were making appearances. The nighttime bite was best on live and artificial shrimp and spoons.

In freshwater, in the larger lakes the water has been fairly cloudy due to the wind. Live shiners produced the best results. In the canals and in clearer water, topwater, spinnerbaits and artificials produced fairly well. Bass seemed to be holding just outside the grasslines and Peacocks were biting well in the canals.

If your heading out, keep and eye on the weather, stay safe and make it a great day for fishing.

Stay Salty My Friends!!!! ?
It was good seeing so many family, friends, legends, sponsorers, fans and well wishers turn out for Jose' memorial on Sunday. The ceremony was a great tribute to the icon Jose was. The IGFA Hall of Fame Museum was closed to host the standing room only event. The video played can be viewed here.
