The walleye is sensitive to light and seek deeper waters when the sun is shinning brightly. If the day is cloudy or overcast, the walleye do move into shallower waters near weed beds and rock formations.

This would be by the mouth of the rivers and other lakes that feed into the main lake. Also, look by the waterways near the grassy or weedy areas. These will be prime locations for finding walleye.

The best time of day to fish Lake Vermillion is on cloudy days, before the sun comes up, or at night just after the sun goes down. You will have to find your location and then find out which presentation and technique will work the best.

You want to offer live bait. You can use leeches, grubs or minnows. The artificial lure can be something that shines and can be seen in the water. The color of lure will depend on the water condition at the time you are fishing. In all, fishing with a minnow will work just as well as any other presentation.

It is easy enough to get to the island and just drift and cast. Another ideal way to fish this area is trolling at about two miles per hour. You do not want to make to much wave when you arrive at the island.
