How To Pick Good Shad Bait Tanks

2016/7/18 17:12:49

Live bait is the preferred method used regardless of which species of fish you are going after. This is due to the fact that almost every species of fish responds very well to live bait especially when it is similar to their natural food source. Shad is one of the most popular live bait used because it is the favorite of almost every species of fish. One of the main things that you must do when fishing with live bait is to keep it fresh. The best way to do that is by investing in a good shad bait tank.

Here are a few suggestions on how to pick good shad bait tanks so you can find the ones that will help make all of your fishing trips more enjoyable and productive. There are four things a good tank should have, they are listed below.

* Aeration
* Circulation
* Conditioning
* Filtration

Each one of these plays an important role in keeping your bait alive and fresh. The aeration and circulation systems combine to increases the oxygen in the water to make it a livable habitat for the bait. When picking out a good shad bait tank the pump used for circulation should provide a smooth gentle speed that is not too fast or it will be too much for the shad. By the time you use them to go fishing they will be worn out and not very active. You also want to get a circulation system that is easy maintenance.

The filtration system is designed to remove organic matter that can be deadly to the shad. It removes ammonia and other debris and keeps the water clean. No bait tank is complete without a filtration system.

Features to Look For

There are certain features that you need to search for that will make up a good shad bait tank. If you take your time and look for the ones that have these features you should end up with a good product that you can depend on. Two of the main things that you need to search for is an easy to drain system and a unit that is easy to clean. You must be able to drain all the old water out and clean up the tank between uses or your bait tank will soon become useless.

Durability is also a must. Look for a tank made with all stainless steel hardware, double wall construction and insulation. The bait tank should be constructed of strong but lightweight polyethylene material.

Tips for Using and Storing Shad

Knowing a little about shad will help you care for your bait better while it is being stored. This means healthier and lively bait that will get the attention of any fish species better. When choosing your bait tank consider the fact that shad has a tendency of gathering together in corners, which can result in lack of oxygen. This in turn can cause them to become stressed, lose their scales and after a short period of time they will begin to die. One way to prevent this from happening is by purchasing an oval or round shad bait tank.
