Scottsdale Summer Golf with the Country Club at DC Ranch

2016/7/19 16:17:10

It seems as though we never really had much of a winter this season here a Country Club Scottsdale, and thus we had quite a few more golfers than in the past. The weather was conducive for tournament play, and we had some great competitions. It was fun to watch this exciting matches crown some new champions, and we were delighted most of the competitions had more contestants than any year in the past.

As we have stated many times, Country Club Scottsdale Mary Fink had a banner season with five wins to her credit. She won the Ladies' Stroke Play; Individual Match Play over Marcy Bartolini; Team Match Play with Sheila Fankhauser; Couples Country Club Scottsdale Championship with Bob Fink; and recently the Shootout Championship of the Ladies' Member Guest. Quite the impressive run over the last few months!

The Country Club Scottsdale Gentlemen's Senior Stroke Play Club Championship Gross was won by Van DeWar, who nipped Bernie Schaefer by but two strokes over 36 holes Marc Braslow and Jerry Mahanke were Champions in their respective senior divisions. In the 2012 Gentlemen's Club Championship, Allan MacDonald prevailed again for his second championship by defeating Van DeWar by two strokes. Bob Hope was the gross champion in his division with Mike Anderson, Don Roberts, and Ed Werz winning the net. The Gentlemen's Captains Cup, a marathon Match Play team
competition was won by Jeff Campbell and Steve Krendick, who prevailed against Stan Fallis and his partner, Bob Voit. The Men's Individual Match Play Country Club Scottsdale Championship was divided with Mike Harvey defeating Van DeWar in a very tightly played Match. The Country Club Scottsdale Gentlemen's Senior Individual Match Play Championship was won by Larry Moore, who defeated Rich Puricelli. With the temperatures rising and longer sunny days ahead, we are able to start play at 7:30 a.m. from May through September. In May, we will continue with first and tenth tee starts on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 9:40 AM and in the afternoons from 11:40 AM to 1:30 P.M. All first tee starts will begin at 7:30 AM Shotgun Starts will remain at 8:30 AM to make certain the agronomy team has ample time to prepare the course for play. In June, the only 1st and 10th tee start will be on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 9:40 AM. All other days start off #1 tee from 7:30 AM.

The Country Club Scottsdale and practice park will be closed on Mondays from June 4th. Should you need your clubs or shoes, please let the golf shop know you will be picking them up to the weekend prior. The Country Club at DC Ranch has been invited to host a few of the most prestigious golf events on the USGA/AZ Golf Association calendar this summer. The first Championship is the AZ Senior Stroke Play Scottsdale Private Golf Club Championship, Monday, May 7th and Tuesday, May 8th. We are told DC Ranch will host the "Sold Out" field for the first time in the history of the tournament. Our member, Jerry Mahanke, AGA Official, is looking for ten (10) volunteers to help with the event. If you are interested, please contact the Golf Shop, and we will communicate this with Jerry Mahanke. We are also a host to the Men's US Open Qualifier on Monday, May 14 for 78 entrants hoping to advance to the regional. The Scottsdale Private Golf Club Golf Course will be closed May 7, 8, and 14, but the practice park will be open for member practice from 7:00 AM to 5:00 P.M. on those days.

Friday June 1st - Black Friday or "Superintendent's Revenge" day. The golf course will be set up as challenging as any day of the year for all players to test their shot-making skills. Everyone is encouraged to take on this challenge. Save the Dates: The 2nd Annual Scottsdale Private Golf Club "Inferno" Gentlemen's Summer Member-Guest is scheduled for Friday Afternoon, July 27th with a 12:30 shotgun start, with a final round on Saturday, July 28th, with an 8:30 AM Shotgun start. . Please choose a guest for this 36-hole competition featuring four nine-hole formats. The entry fee will be $300 per team, and entries will be on Fore Tees from May 1st. The field size will be capped at the first 60 teams to enter. Based on last year's heightened interest, we expect a full field this year. Our Annual Fall Scottsdale Private Golf Club over seeding schedule calls for the course to close from Monday, September 24th and will re-open on Friday October 19th, with AM and P.M. Shotgun starts. We will have an opening-day signs ups available on Scottsdale Private Golf Clubs Fore Tees later this summer. To best prepare for our summer months, here are a few things I have been reminded of over time:

* Wear light colored breathable clothing;
* Wear head cover that provides ample face and ear protection on
* Wear sunscreen or sun block
* Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
We hope you have a fun summer of golf with family and friends!
