Top Reasons to Play Golf

If you’re looking for a great way to get exercise and have fun, you should think about the top reasons to play golf.

In my opinion, golf is the perfect sport. Here are three reasons I think everyone should take up the game.

First, nearly anyone can play. Golf is a game that can be played for nearly your entire life. As long as you are able to swing a club, you can play.

I’ve seen golfers well into their 80s out on the course having a great time. Some of them don’t hit the ball as far as they used to, but they’ve made up for it by learning to hit the ball straighter. Hitting the fairway is often more important than hitting the ball 250 yards or farther off the tee.

Some golfers even consider it a lifelong goal to shoot their age. Shooting an 85 when you’re 85 years old is quite an accomplishment.

Golf also is a game that allows you to see improvement as you play. The thrill of shooting lower scores is one of the top reasons to play golf.

Second, golf has a brilliant system that makes it possible to play against any other golfer.

After you play golf for a while, you can apply to get a handicap from the United States Golf Association. The organization will use a formula based on your recent scores and where you played to determine about what you would be expected to shoot.

This allows you play with golfers who are better than you and those who are not as good as you.

For example, when you’re first starting to play you will likely have a high handicap. Let’s say you handicap is a 27. That means you would be expected to make bogeys (one over par) on half the holes and double bogeys (two over par) on the other half.

So, if you are playing against someone who has a zero handicap (also known as a “scratch” golfer), you would get a stroke advantage on the nine easiest holes and two strokes on the nine hardest holes during the 18-hole round.

This allows the best golfers and some who might not be as accomplished yet to play a friendly match.

Third, golf allows you to compete even when you’re not playing with anyone else.

Ultimately, golfers are competing against the golf course. I like to think of every hole as a new challenge.

My job is to get the ball in the hole in as few strokes as possible. The course has obstacles such as trees, bunkers, lakes and tall grass known as “the rough” to make it more difficult.

If one hole doesn’t go very well, I try to do better on the next hole, which will be a new and often completely different challenge.

Golfers are constantly seeking ways to get better at golf. New equipment and technology have helped golfers learn to hit the ball farther and straighter.

Golfers who are starting out and even those how have been playing a while read 2012 golf club reviews and look for tips from professional golf instructors.

These are a few of the top reasons to play golf. Once you start playing, you’ll fall in love with the game be playing for years to come.
