Baseball Betting Tips, When NOT to Bet

As the second half of the season gets underway after the All Star break and the Trade Deadline has come and gone, it is not hard to identify the good teams, and the bad.  That goes for the bettors as well as the books.  The result is that value is harder to find.

While I have received much good advice over the years when it comes to betting on baseball, one of the best pieces was to place fewer bets on fewer games.  There are literally thousands of games over the course of the season one can bet on, and that is multiplied by the number of different ways to bet each game.  However, that does not mean you have to bet on every game.

Now that every team has shown it's true colors, it is more important than ever to be very picky when it comes to which bets you will take.  The books (and bettors) have been following the teams closely all year long.  There are few secrets left to uncover, and the mid season trades really have minimal effect on the teams.  They may make a good team a little better, and a bad team a little worse, but they are both still good or bad already without the trades.

Here are three recommendations for the second half of the season:

1)  Don't bet against the 5 best teams in the league.  They are in a hot race to the end and have proven themselves to be the best teams in the business.  They are highly motivated to finish the season as the World Series Champs, and that motivation should never be bet against.

2)  Don't bet on the 5 worst teams in the league.  They know they are out of it as far as any playoff hopes and have proven themselves to be the worst teams playing this season.  Their motivation is to finish the season and start fresh again next year.  They will do things with personnel that one of the top 5 teams would never do.  The only contribution they have left to make is to hat can be done next year.

3)  Avoid betting on teams that are less than .450 where they are playing, home or road.  Even though the season is more than half over, there is still a lot of parity in the league and the closer you can get to betting on average teams with good payouts, the more that parity will help you.

These baseball betting tips should help you eliminate most of the more questionable games and stop you from making a lot of bad bets.  Remember, it is not the good bets that make you money.  It is the bad ones you don't bet on that makes a season profitable.
