TIP! Get educated on the way to properly pass the ball on a bounce. Good bounce passes need to hit the other player waist length when they receive it.

Watch your form while you dribble the ball. Use the fingertips, not the palm, for the best dribbling. When you do this you will have more control over the ball. Dribble the ball around the height of your waist, and over to one side. Look up, not down.

TIP! If you’re going to be a jump shooter, don’t lift too many weights. Although it’s true that strong muscles are beneficial, additional bulk can impede your ability to play effectively along the perimeter.

When dribbling, make sure you hold your head high and look straight ahead. Looking directly at the ball means you aren’t good at the game yet. Bring the ball no matter where you go. Dribble as you walk to the market. By looking forward instead of at the basketball, you are able to see the happenings on the court.

TIP! Footwork is what gets you ready for a shot. You need to have physical presence beneath the net, but you also have to choose the right spot to be in.

To improve your game, concentrate on your strong points. Your talent might not make you a star; however, learning your strengths will help you become a better team player. Perfect what you can do well by practicing and developing the strengths you already have.

TIP! Don’t play when you are injured! This sport is physically demanding and you can become injured. If you keep on playing after sustaining an injury, you may make the injury even more serious.

Don’t pump too much iron if you plan on being a jump shooter. Muscle strength can be great for basketball players, but it is actually possible to have excessive amounts for playing on the perimeter. As a shooting guard, having bulky arm muscles can actually reduce the number of successful shots.

If you have a child that is strength training for basketball, their core muscles should be properly developed. This will involve their lower back, hips, and abs. A good core leads to a solid foundation and that is required to be very good at basketball. By developing a strong core, your legs will follow suit.
