So what does it take to be a great basketball player ?

Hard work,sheer determination to fail hundreds,if not,thousands of times,yet still carry on and 5 essential secrets that i will teach you if you are willing to take some common sense advice.But most importantly of all,you must be willing to take some form of action.

Maybe you do not have aspirations of being another michael jordan.You may just play for fun or for your own personal fitness.
Basketball can be one of the best sports around for fun and for fitness and millions of people of all ages worldwide play this amazing sport.

To excell at any sport,obviously takes a lot of sustained effort.So much,that not many people ever reach professional level in any sport,let alone basketball.
I believe natural talent plays a very small part in any sport and many thousands of hours is needed to produce the results that are achieved by the top sportmen and women in each sport.
Of course,practice alone will not make you a professional NBA basketball player.Some coaching is obviously needed otherwise how would you know where you were going wrong.

1.Repetition
Without repetition,how would you learn skills effectively.Each time you perform any action you build and strengthen neural pathways in your brain.So much that you eventually do things without even thinking about them.

2.Your fitness levels
Know what your competitors are doing and go one step further.If you knew what your competitors were doing and trained 5% harder or longer,what effect do you think that would have on your fitness levels.

3.What your eating affects your energy levels.
Do you know what you are eating ? If you do not know what effects food have on your body,how can you expect to get the best out of your body.

4.Your reaction times are critical to your game play.
Many things hamper your reaction times,stress and anxiety.How can you improve your reaction times and what difference will it make in your game.

5.Kaizen - Constant Self Improvement.
You should always be striving to better yourself every day.If you don't improve at least weekly you will be overtaken.

Ultimately you get out of life exactly what you put in.Look at your results and then look at the effort you put in to get those results.My guess is that they are evenly matched.So if you put in just an extra 5% more effort in each of the 5 areas above,how much better do you think your basketball playing will be.It wont be 25%.It would be more like 200 % - 500%.
