The Point Guard Dilemma of the New York Knicks

The New York Knicks managed to pull of a 104-102 victory on Christmas Day. The score never should've been that close. A talent packed Knicks roster should have easily taken care of an aging Celtics roster. The problem is the point guard position for the New York Knicks.

Toney Douglas isn't a true point guard. He is much better suited to be a 2-guard and his problems were only masked due to the stardom of Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire. The Knicks only have two point guards now, Toney Douglas, and Mike Bibby, who sat out with back spasms.

Originally, the well-hyped rookie Iman Shumpert would have backed up Toney Douglas, but he has a sprained MCL and is going to be for 2-4 weeks.

A situation of that sort isn't good for any team, but is terrible for a Knicks team running the fast paced, shoot first, think later type of offense that coach D'antoni is running.

As such, GM Glen Grunwald needs to look into the market and find one or two option to supplement Toney Douglas until the return of Baron Davis.

Gilbert Arenas

Signing Arenas to a veteran's minimum wage would be great for the New York Knicks. He would bring experience and tenure to the young Knicks team and add depth to the team.

Arenas also reportedly has the New York Knicks on his wish list. Capable of putting up 15 points a night and around four assists, nothing compared to what he was a few years ago, he would still prove to be the valuable asset that will allow the Knicks to make a deep playoff run.

Earl Boykins

If Arenas isn't what the Knicks are looking for, Grunwald could always choose Earl Boykins of the Golden State Warriors.

Despite being 35, Boykins is a rather elusive guard. Standing at only 5'5'', he is not much of a defensive threat but he will serve well to add experience and depth to the young Knicks roster.

Having played for Melo for three and a half seasons, he should fit perfectly with him. Unlike Douglas, he is a true point guard.
