WR vs The Jam

Question
QUESTION: Age: 16
State: California

Hey coach. I am playing wide receiver for my high school, i run excellent routes, i have decent speed, good field vision, ball control and all that but what i have problems with is when the corners come up and play the press.

I think that is why i am not starting this year. I have worked on all aspects of my game but the jam gets to me still. And after spring ball i realized that's what i need to work on. My size isn't real big like the other receivers on my team, so i get jammed up easily.

I would like to ask you if you have any advice or techniques that i can use to get out of the jam or avoid the jam?

ANSWER: Dear Adrian:
I can try to tell you how to do it over the Internet or you can just ask one of you team mates. Just have one of the guys on your team that is playing on the defensive line show you how they pass rush. You will be using the same, type of, technique as they are using. Or you can just ask one of the receivers on your team to show you how he does it. Let me know if you still want me to tell you how to beat the jam on the Internet?

QUESTION: hey coach,
my friend that played wide receiver last year that just graduated had told me about a double move. Where you fake in the direction you want to go then fake to the opposite then head in the direction you want to go(getting off the line). His footwork is much faster than mine, and since spring ball is now over i have to wait till i get back on the field in the summer to actually try it out.
I'm going to work on some of those sparq training ladders to get my footwork alot faster, so i can do the double move.

However if you have another suggestion, i would really appreciate it.

Answer
Dear Adrian:
The best and easiest way to improve your foot work is by playing basketball and handball.
Basketball will help you get into great football shape. It will teach you how to run back, forth, and side to side without thinking about it.

Basketball will also help your coordination, quickness, conditioning, and improve your foot work. This type of workout is especially good if you want to play receiver, defensive end, and or defensive back.

You also might want to add handball to your workout schedule. Just like in basketball, handball teaches you how to move without having to think about it.  You just react to the ball much like in football. Handball can be of great help, to a football player, for all the same reasons as basketball.

Try playing these two sports, as part of your routine workout, and you will get into fantastic football shape. You will also improve your coordination and reaction time for getting off the line of scrimmage. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. I hope this information will be of help to you. If not please let me know and I will do my best to answer your questions.

Your friend, Coach Louis

PS
Try this technique for getting off the line of scrimmage.

1. Hit the defender抯 arm with your outside forearm then grab and pull his shoulder pad towards you.

2. Then (with your other arm) swing it over his body and drive down field.
