What should i do if i go out for running back?

Question
Hey, i have never played football as a school sport or anything; but I would like to try out for either running back or line backer. But I'm not sure what I'd be good at or how to become better at it.

Thanks for writing.  Well my friend, I am not sure exactly what you would like to know here.  I guess the first thing is to really look into football and see if it is for you.  It is a very violent sport, which calls for a big commitment and a lot of sacrifice.  SO if you look into that and it still interests you, thats a start.

After that, it will really be up to you.  I would be more than happy to help you out with anything, but I need something specific to respond to.  You know?  There are a million things to do to get ready when going out for a position in football, and I am not allowed to write that much!!  So when you look into it, write down a few questions, and let me know what they are.  I will get back to you and get you on your way.

More than anything, get with the coach and ask him what he would like to see you do to get ready.  He will know what he needs in a RB for his offense, and would be glad to help you get to this point.

Like I said, get back to me with some specific questions, and I will be able to help you out.  I dont know you or know what you are good at / not good at, so I really cant tell you what I think without knowing some details.  How old are you?  Height / weight?  Speed?  Experience / knowledge in football?  Those are just some of the basics I would need to get started.

Remember, if you do not know what you are good at there would be no way for me to know what you are good at!

Best wishes

Coach Perl
