Goalies

Question
Hello Martial, my son is 11 years of age and has been goal tending since the age of 7.  He plays AAA hockey and loves the sport.  What do you recommend for him to get noticed through his years?  His long term goal is to play in the NHL.
Thank you
Darlene

Answer
Hello Darlene,

Loving to play the GAME is probably the first and most important key.  The road to the NHL is NOT for the meek and certainly not for anyone who can not or will not enjoy the ENTIRE process, from the commitments and "sacrifices" on nutrition, fitness, training, practices, injuries, setbacks, challenges, etc., etc., etc.  That said, of course, there are HUGE rewards and many many upsides to going pro...

A good book you can read on this is co-written by Penguins coach Dan Bylsma and his Dad.  Dan writes about his entire journey into the NHL.  I believe it's called "so your son wants to go into the NHL?"...

Like I said there is ALOT that goes into going pro...  so feel free to follow up with more specific questions!

Hope this helps get you started anyway!

NEVER FORGET --  The best players PLAY hockey for the LOVE of the game...  and they are some of the "lucky ones" on this earth that actually get paid for doing that!!

Cheers and good luck!

Martial
