First base

If I am running through first base after a hit, what base do I step on? Orange or white? And if I'm tagging up after leading off does it matter what base I tag up on?

Hi Sam,

if there is a play at 1st you must use the colored portion and the defense the white portion, unless the throw is coming from foul territory on the 1st base side or the throw draws the defensive player into foul territory.  In those cases use can use either as can the defense.

If there is no play you can use either.  Once you achieve 1st base safely it becomes 1 large base and you can use either.
