Shakespeare Wonder Rod

Question
Joe, I have a Shakespeare Wonderod model 1470 T. I found the rod in a closet when I purchased my grandparents house. The rod is brand new in it's original sleeve and aluminum tube.I was wondering if you could tell me the value of it and if I should keep it as a collectors item or enjoy it on a stream. It is a beautiful snow white with red and black windings. Thanks,Kevin

Answer
Hi Kevin,

This rod is a trout model as designated by the "T" in the model number.  It should handle either a 7wt or 6wt line in modern terms depending on rod length.  If it is the 7'9" model use the lighter line, if the 8'6" model use the 7wt.  Collector value would be in the $60-$80 range with the shorter version of this rod at the higher end of the range.

These rods are typically excellent fishing rods.  It's your choice on using it or keeping it new.  My opinion, worth just what you are paying for it, is that I would probably want to use it myself.  It would be hard to find comparable quality today at that price.

Thanks,  Joe
