Kind Regards,Jason - New Zealand (Big Trout Country)

Answer
Jason,
First question is it a fly rod, reel below handle? If not I am pretty sure it is not going to be in any written history.

You are mailing one person, posted public but as a rule people don't read the answers , I get a number of repeat questions.

So I searched here and my memory was correct , never heard of EG Watson as a bamboo rod maker. I am in the US and rarely see a UK rod. When I do it is a big name like Hardy or Scottie.

I am almost sure it isn't in the old Tuner book , Fishing Tackle Graham Turner, which has a few UK rods.

You need to find some Australian makers. I live in Denver and have learned a whole lot about several makers and which stores they sold.
There are also guys like me who have made a few hundred rods but really is not on anyone's radar.
A picture would tell me if it is made in Japan. Lots of GIs bought them since 1946. v "design with a fish (in red & white) and has the name Topline " sounds like other Japanese rods I have seen. They are horrible fishing tools, not even made out of Tonkin cane.

My guess is that you are not going to find any information on it and so go forth and restore.
My first experimental restores were on Horrocks-Ibbotson and Montague , they weighed over 5 oz with a diameter above the handle closer to 1/2 inch than a 1/4 inch. There were slow or very stiff - like a broom and heavy. Nothing lost if I messed them up.
Luck to you,
Mac
