FISHING SETUP

Question
GENERALY IN FREASH WATER HOW FAR OFF THE HOOK DO YOU PUT YOUR SINKERS USING BOBBERS?

Answer
Hi Chuckie,

The further you can keep the sinkers from the bait the better.  Its less likely they will see them.  Put the smallest one near the bait and progressively increase sizes as you progress away from the bait.  For instance, start out with a #B 8" away from the hook.  Then add a #BB 6" up from that, then a #3/0 6" up from the last and so on.  Dont put them all in one spot or it's more likely that the fish will feel the weight.  If it's staggered up the line the fish is less likely to notice it and drop the bait. For small panfish it may not matter but for bigger fish it makes a difference.

To answer your question in general, I wouldn't get split shot any closer than 8" to the bait.  A foot would even be better.

Good luck,

Marc
