Sewell R Dunton Model 700

Question
Hello,
A friend found one of these cleaning out an attic and gave it to me. The rod is complete(both tips) with fighting butt and has been fished, the grip shows use.It is is very good condition otherwise  with one exception, someone bent the stripping guide out of one wrapping but it is still there, looks like this happened putting it in the tube. The tube is aluminum and says AA peerless co, Newark,NJ. Worthy of a pro repair or are they common? I can follow up with some pics if you are interested.
thanks,
Skip

Answer
Hi Skip,

Sewell Dunton bought the remaining stock and machinery of the Montague company in 1954 and made rods into the 1970s.  They are not raelly rare, but they are not all that common either.  They are probably decent fishing rods, but may have not so great ferrules.  Witht he fighting butt it may be the light salmon model?  It is worth having the stripper guide wrapped and/or replacing the guide if it is too damaged to reuse.  Value won't be high even in very good condition...maybe in the $150-$250 range depending on actual condition of the rod.

The pictures would be useful to me.  I can tell you more about the rod and can probably tell you about what it would cost to get it repaired.

Thanks,  Joe
