Question

South Bend Rod No. 210
Hi!
I have a South Bend 4' Rod No. 210, the (handle?!) looks like its cast aluminum?, couldn't be steel, it's not that heavy, and looks like fiberglass? Has the pouch, we would like to know if you could kindly share any info about it as to the Value, What it originally sold for, What year they sold and were popular, and is this a specific fish rod, or just a shorty for kids! any help will be humbly appreciated! Jodi

Answer
Hi,

your rod looks like its steel. Steel was the material of choice for low/medium cost bait casting reels up until the late 40s/50s when fiberglass took over.

Your rod is worth $10 to $20 with the original bag (condition hurts it or it would be a bit higher).

Since its a bait casting rod, it will need a bait casting reel. A nice vintage reel like a Shakespeare Marhoff would go well with it and some braided nylon for line (you cant use monofiliment in old reels.

regards

Bob
