100metre depth fishing

Question
How to fish at 100metre depth? We usually catch 10kg garupa at this depth.I would be grateful if you can advise me on the structure of the leader to use.

Rgds,

Answer
Hi Frank;
     I used to do a lot of tile fishing many years back at depths of 450 to 500 feet along with codfish in the 200 foot depths.  In each instance, the terminal tackle, (hook, leader, sinker) were virutally the same as fishing in shallower depths.  About the only significant difference was the amount of weight needed to hold bottom.  I am not aware of any special rig you should use for the additional depth.  When fishing the tilefish, one special rig we used often, was to attach the swivel via a special spring loaded device used in trolling, that when a fish was hooked, the sinker was released and all you had to do was reel in the fish without the dead weight of the sinker.  And this worked excellently, since for those depths we made our own disposable sinkers by filling empty cans with concrete and inserting an eyehook for attachment purposes.  Considering this fishing was done while drifting, not only did you have to let out 500 feet of line to hit bottom, but as the boat drifted, it was necessary to keep letting out line to keep it there.  It was not unusual at all to virtually empty the reel waiting for a fish.  Fortunately, that rarely happened as the fishery was good.  But on those rare occassions when all the line was out and the rig could not hold bottom, it was quite a chore to reel in all that line with that home made sinker that probably weighed in excess of 3 lbs.  The fish ran anywhere from 10 lbs up into the 40s.  I hope this experience is of some help in the fishing you intend to do. I have not fished grouper in the depths you ask about, but would immagine that what I experienced is quite similar.
