Out of bounds ruling

Question
In a match play tournament between two golf clubs my playing partners declares
my ball to be in bounds after lining up the posts from both sides. We continue
play but just before we complete the hole their team captain pulls up and says I
was out of bounds based on where the devot is. Does he have the right to over
ride my playing partner?

Answer
Hi Jim,

No, he does not. It would be your playing partners that agree that the ball is in bounds. The only one that could over rule is a rules official, not a competitor from a different group.

Plus, whether a ball is in bound or out of bounds is not defined by location of the divot after the fact. It's defined by the position of the ball relative to the OB line.

Hope this helps.
