What to look for in golf clubs

Question
Hello!   I'm thinking about upgrading my golf clubs for this season.  I've been golfing for about 4 years with a set of ladies clubs I bought at a yard sale.  They are probably 10-12 years old, Wilson graphite shafts.  I'm going to hand them down to my daughter.  Looking at new clubs is confusing with all the angles, head sizes, etc.  I don't even know where to start, other than I need the L70 (or flex) shafts.   Any advice?    Last year I played 1-2 times per week, and averaged 5-6 over on 9 holes.  I'm hoping to improve this year.  Cold weather is almost gone here in Iowa!

Answer
Greetings!
The golfing season is just around the corner..time to tune up the 'ol swing and start it off right with some new "sticks". Every year I attend the PGA Merchandise Show, and I'm amazed of the choices and technology that's out there.

Where to start.....well,the shaft flex that you mentioned seems in line, stick with graphite...lightweight to generate more clubhead speed. Head size?? Look at the club..does it "look" good to you while addressing the ball? Angles, lie, loft...that is something that I would suggest you see your local PGA professional to get a proper fitting.

As far as budget...Callaway and Taylor Made is a very popular choice and at the higher end of the budget, while Cobra and Wilson is a bit lower and somewhere in between.

A little "pre-shot" prep time getting the proper fit will make a world of difference. Hey, and maybe there's a "2 for" deal, so you won't have to hand down the "oldies" to your daughter!

Thank-you for your question, and remember to keep it simple and have alot of fun!
