No Start 1984 Sea Ray

Question
I have an '84 Sea Ray 18' with a 3.0L inline 4 cyl, 140hp motor.

I last used the boat in 2006 and it ran perfectly... no problems in the motor or outdrive.  I winterized the boat at end of season: draining/replacing fluids, then spraying WD-40 into each cyl.

In 2007, the starter would not spin the engine. The crank spun about 3 degrees, then stopped.  I had the starter checked, and it's fine.  The boat hasn't run since.

I think I need to manually spin the motor to get it unstuck, but I can't access the front crank because the front motor mount prevents access.

How can I get some muscle on the motor to free it up?

BTW, the prop spins freely in each direction.

I'm stuck ... and need some smarts.  I hope you can help and I look forward to your response.

Thank you.

Answer
I would first pull the plugs and spray or pour in some WD 40 or similar to help if there is some rust on the rings and cilindar walls.  I would leave the pugs out so I don't have to fight compression.  Then put your wrench on your alternator nut or some thing you can reach.  You may need to tension the belts a little to get movement.  Try one direction then the other direction rocking the motor back and forth.

Hope this works for you.
