what type of boat should we look for?

Question
Hi, I`m planning my trip to St. Lucia and after seeing all the wonderful photos, we`ve decided to try chartering a crewed boat for the day.  It will be only four adults and we want to coast down the eastern side of the island so that we can go snorkeling at Anse Cochon.  I`ve read that the only way you can reach this spot is by boat.

My question is, we`ve never chartered a boat and don`t know what to ask for.  I`ve looked into sailboats and catamarans and am curious about whether they can reach the beach.  Do they drop anchor and you board a small craft?  I don`t want to sound like I have no idea what I`m talking about and could really use some knowledgeable advice.  Thank you.

Answer
SINCE I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO ST. LUCIA THAT PART IS A TOUGH ANSWER. AS FAR AS WHAT TYPE OF BOAT, I WOULD THINK A CATAMARAN WOULD BE THE LOGICAL CHOICE. THE CAT HAS THE ABILITY TO BE BEACHED, IF THERE IS A BEACH THERE AND THE SURF IS NOT ROUGH.ALSO YOU WILL PROBABLY BE STAYING AT A HOTEL AND THEY CAN DIRECT YOU TO COMPETENT VESSELS IN THE AREA. YOU DEFINITELY WANT SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE WATERS AND HAS A SEAWORTHY BOAT. HOPE THIS HELPS.
