QUESTION: Hi Jim,
I think what I really need is an "overnight sheet tutorial" similar to the tutorial found on the Daily Racing Form website that teaches how to read the racing form. Does such a thing exist?
Thanks,
Glenn

Answer
Hi Glenn:

Again, thanks for your question.  There are many suppliers of track data that we as handicappers use in our creation of pick sheets.  In particular, I use nothing but Brisnet past performances at www.brisnet.com.  On their webside home page, down the left side of the page, you can find "library" which gives an explanation of a lot of the terms in horse racing data.  Also, you might check www.equibase.com - for your information, Equibase is the supplier to Daily Racing Form of all the data on their past performances.  Each track has an "Equibase" expert on hand to provide all the points of call - I have watched them and they are amazing in the quality of the call and the information used in "trip" comments.

As I said previously, I use Brisnet - you can download their free program "Bris Custom PP Generator" which will help you in your handicapping efforts - programs only cost $1 per track and they bill your credit card monthly.  The PP Generator also has some very good handicapping tools - when you download the Generator and open it up, you will see the Premium PP's, but you can go to the reports tab and click on "condensed report" and get the average winning speed for each race and at the bottom of the page is displayed "best speed last race" and "best speed at today's distance" (very important in handicapping).  I cover all of this in my handicapping book available on my website www.puppies-or-ponies.com.

I hope this gives you some assistance with your question.

Jim
