Dry heaves/gags

Question
Hello!

Im a 13 year old boy and a freshman on the xc team. I am 119lbs and 5 foot 2. Our training consists of regular 4-6 mile runs at an easy to a moderate pace and track workouts, tempo runs, hills, and long runs. We also incorporate stretching and drills. Everytime when i race whether its an 800m or more i tend to dry heave in the middle to the end of the race. It really slows me down and is painful. This will also happen when we are doing a track workout when i go faster than normal.Sometimes in a race when im not even pushing myself hard i can feel the dry heaves coming and then it happens I do not know what im doing wrong i hydrate and eat 30min before i run. How can i stop the dry heaves? Is there anything that i can take before I run a hard effort so i dont end up gagging?

My theory on this is that i think i get too nervous before a race and that somehow causes me too dry heave during my peformance.

Thank you so much for taking the time out to read my question.

Answer
Heres my theories

You are eating at the wrong time (I have to at least wait for 2 hours to run after I eat). 30 min. might not be enough time. Experiment with it, and see if that is the problem.

You might be eating the wrong thing. Before you run, you shouldn't eat fiber, protein, dairy, oils, or sugars. That leaves you carbohydrates. Try looking at your diet. If you eat these things before you tun, you will get sick.

Are you hydrating enough. One way to see is to look at your pee. IF it is yellow, it is not your fellow, if it is clear, then you shouldn't fear. Seriously, it sounds weird, but it can change the way you hydrate.

I can't think of anything else right now that might be causing it.

I just suggest trying to change some of these things, and seeing if it helps.

Hope  helped, and good luck!
