18 is the legal age to "carry" a handgun. You must be 21 per Federal Laws to purchase a handgun or handgun ammunition. As for carrying the gun in a vehicle, this is a tricky subject and borders concealed carry if not placed and left in complete plain sight. The Laws in each state are different, I would urge that you contact your local or state police and speak with them.
