Answer
Bruce,

The Remington 870 has been one of the most popular models of pump shotgun made.  I have no idea how many, but let's just say there are a lot of them.  They are certainly not rare by any description.

Based on the barrel code, it looks like your gun was made in 1970.  If you want to be absolutely sure you can actually call Remington with the Model and Serial Number and they will provide you with an approximate date of manufacture.  The number to call is 800-243-9700.  Calls can be made Mon-Fri 9-5 EST.

Introduced in 1964, the Wingmaster came in a variety of barrel lengths, usually 26", 28" or 30".  They utilized twin slide rails on the pump action and usually had a walnut checkered stock and forearm.  The .410 version was discontinued in 1994 but then reintroduced in 1999.  In 95% condition, they are worth approximately $200.

Thats about all I can tell you...hope it gives you what you are looking for.

Best regards,

Doug Little
