restart windsurfing after 12 years; what to buy?

Question
Hi Patrick,

I am interested in starting back up windsurfing after 12 years. I used to surf in Holland in stronger wind (4-5 beaufort, 15-25 mph). I was able to do waterstarts, but jibing was not perfect yet. I am 6'4" and about 230lbs.

What do you recommend I buy. I live in Southern California now, hoping for some 15-20mph winds.

thx,

Robert

Answer
Given your weight, experience and current wind conditions I would look for a board around 140 to 150 liters as a good all around size board for you.  Try to demo some boards around this volume if possible to see how you feel on it. I would recommend a sail in the 7 meter range as your main sail in 15 to 18 mph wind.
