harness choice

2016/7/22 14:42:23

Question
I am looking to upgrade my present seat harness which is about 5 years old.  As I understand it the basic choice is between a seat vs. waist harness. I am aware that there are also "convertible" harnesses that are supposed to adapt to either type. I consider myseld an intermediate. Most of my sailing is done on an inland Indiana lake.  I do spend one week a year at Hilton Head Island where there is a good deal of chop and heavy shore break on a windy day.
Thank you for your input on this decision.
Dan

Answer
I personally prefer a seat harness for the sake of comfort. If you like to take long high speed runs nothing beats a seat harness. I would be suspect of the convertibles since I always think that they compromise one or the other aspect they are designed for. Unless you are doing a lot of true wave sailing I would go with the seat.
