Treading for non swimmers

Question
I cant swim but I can tread water. Is it okay for me to jump into a pool?

Answer
d--
Swimming and competitive swimming are two different things.  If you can tread water and feel comfortable with it, you are swimming.  Competitive swimming consists of specific strokes and events.  It's a sport.

Swimming in general is just being comfortable in a pool.  You should be able to move around regardless of the depth.

Would you be comfortable in water where you can't touch the bottom?  If so, I would say you are fine to jump in a pool.  You might want to let the lifeguard know about your hesitation to jump in though just in case.

Basically, if you can move around and are comfortable with you ability to tread water, you should be fine.

However, if you are unsure of your abilities, I suggest you only jump into a pool that you can touch the bottom in.

If you have any other questions, let me know.  It's difficult to say yes or no in this case becuase I would need to see you tread water.
Good luck!
Eric
