Ice Hockey, Figure Skating And Sports Nutrition Tips And Tricks

2016/7/23 15:22:32

Hong Kong ice skating can be as relaxed, or as competitive as you want it to be. Children can engage in Hong Kong public skating, and everyone from the weekend sports fan to the serious competitor has options in ice hockey or figure skating.

However, for those who\'d like to take their performance in ice events to a new level, the first thing to focus on is not technique, practice time on the ice rink, or even the type of skates you wear. It is far more basic - sports nutrition!

If you are a serious Hong Kong ice hockey competitor, you will be doing hard workouts multiple times per week. You need to rebuild your muscles from these workouts, which cause many minute tears in the muscle fiber. This is normal, and in fact is how your muscles grow - however the recovery needs to be nutritionally supported.

Ice Hockey enthusiasts don\'t necessarily need to be drinking protein shakes instead of water (!), but they do need to make sure they eat substantial amounts of protein in at least two meals of the day. After a hard game of Hong Kong ice hockey, go for spaghetti bolognaise, or multigrain bread with either lean meat like turkey, or peanut butter.

Carbohydrates are the most important nutrient group, and especially needed before ice hockey games or Hong Kong figure skating events. Good blood sugar levels, especially if they are relatively stable, from complex carbohydrates, are important for maintaining energy. They are equally important after ice events and ice hockey games also.

If you quickly replace the fuel that your body has spent propelling you around the ice rink, you reassure the part of your brain that controls metabolism that food is in abundant supply, and it can safely expend energy repairing your muscles and allowing you quick, precise movements.

If you choose to take your carbohydrates and protein from a variety of nutrient-dense sources, like fruits and vegetables, your vitamin and mineral needs are usually taken care of quite naturally.

However, some nutrients that you need to keep in mind for good performance on the ice rink in Hong Kong ice hockey games and figure skating events include calcium, iron, and vitamin B12, which helps prevent fatigue. Calcium is important for bone health, and is available in good quantities in dairy foods, of course.

Iron is essential for transporting oxygen around your body - if oxygen cannot reach your muscles during a Hong Kong ice hockey game, your reflexes will be slower and your muscles less powerful. All the carbohydrates in the world won\'t give you energy on the ice rink if you don\'t have sufficient iron!

While antioxidant vitamins like C and E have been popular in sports supplements for Hong Kong figure skaters and Hong Kong ice hockey players, there is little scientific evidence that they make an immediate or substantial difference to performance.

Focus instead on vitamins like B12, one in which many Hong Kong ice skaters are deficient, but helps prevent muscle fatigue. Supplements are also rarely required for ice hockey players or figure skaters - eating plenty of brightly colored fruits and vegetables is almost always sufficient, even for a demanding sports-focused lifestyle.
