People buy swimming pools for summer fun, but it is not enough that you buy a swimming pool set. There are swimming pool accessories like filters, ladders, and chemicals. These accessories are essential to the existence of your pool system. Even basic above ground pools do need these accessories. You probably have seen above ground pool ladders, decks, and covers. Generally, pool accessories ensure safety.

Making research before purchasing accessories is important. Some people just ask the supplier, who may know little about pool maintenance. You should plan your swimming pool before buying a pool set and accessories.

  1. Filters

All types of pools need filters to keep the water clean. The type of filter depends on the size of the pool. You cannot use a small filter for a large pool, or else, you will end up with poor water quality that will put your health at risk. The main job of pool filters is to remove solid contaminants.

  1. Pumps

Pumps are usually partnered with filters. The main purpose of pumps is to circulate water. Pool water should circulate to distribute chemicals and oxygen so as to even out the water chemistry and quality. Without circulation, there would be a gradation of chlorine and pH levels.

  1. Pool vacuum

Pool vacuums are often overlooked. The type of pool vacuum depends on the type of swimming pool you have or you plan to install. The purpose of a vacuum is to siphon off dirt that has settled on the swimming pool floor. The dirt on the pool bottom cannot be removed by the filters.

  1. Skimmer

A straining basket or skimmer is associated with your filter or vacuum. The skimmer, which removes debris, is an essential cleaning tool for pool owners.

  1. Covers

You cannot allow your pool to sit idly in an open space. It has to be covered to prevent falling leaves, animals, and objects from getting into the pool and contaminating it. An open pool invites contamination from bird droppings, dust, animals, and passersby. Pool covers reduce the need for pool cleaning and lessen the work done by your pumps and filters. Moreover, covers also keep the pool safe for kids, who may naively step into the pool.

  1. Chemicals

Chlorine is the most important chemical for pools. Its role is to disinfect the water by killing bacteria and algae. Chlorine can be in form of calcium or sodium hypochlorite, which can be added to water. The pool water will be left alone for a while to let the chlorine do its job.

Keeping the pH balance of the pool water is a tricky job done with the help of pH stabilizing chemicals. The ideal pH for your pool water is 7.2, but it should be fine up to 7.6. When the pH goes beyond this range, either lower or higher, you tend to suffer from eye and skin irritation. You must check the pH level of the water before using the pool.

  1. Water Test Kit

Regular testing of water conditions ensures safety of you and your family. Poor water conditions result from contamination and chemical imbalance, both of which put a risk to your health. Water testing is the least time consuming of all swimming pool maintenance tasks but is probably the most important.
