A Few Maintenance Tips For Swimming Pool Pumps

2016/7/21 15:23:52

It's a fact that your swimming pool pump is the workhorse of your pool. The amount of water that it will pump over it's life span is almost impossible to fathom but it easily adds up into the millions of gallons, which in turn translates into millions of pounds of weight. So considering all of the hard work that your swimming pool pump does for you, don't you think that you owe it a little TLC from time to time?

A Friend for Life

A Good quality swimming pool pump is designed to last for years and possibly even decades if it is well maintained. However; under certain conditions the life span of your pool pump can be greatly diminished.

Save the Oil and Lubricants

Never spray or drip any lubricant in, on or around your pool pump or it's motor. It may be tempting to do, because after all there is a lot of movement going on there. The bearings on your pump are sealed, so they need no lubing and oil in fact may work to degrade rubber seals that are in the pump. Also, oil will only attract and hold dirt and crud.

Just a Little Dusting Up

Use a small hand broom to clear away any cobwebs or leaves that may have gathered around the pool pumps cooling fan vents. While you are at it, give the whole area around the pump a sweeping out as well.

What Is That Noise Dear?

If your swimming pool pump springs a leak or starts to make odd whining noises then a gasket or bearing is on the blink. Don't worry, you don't need a new pool pump. Simply order the new parts online and if you have the proper tools you can most likely do the repairs yourself.
