Camping A Beginners Guide To Surviving

2016/7/26 16:30:12

Camping is a really great activity that is loved by adventurous, outdoorsy people throughout the world. The combination of being out in nature and being away from the hustle bustle of city life is incredibly relaxing, rejuvenating and enjoyable overall. It can really give you a sense of calm and help to clear your mind. That being said, it can also provide certain dangers and hazards while out in the wilderness. Because of this, it's incredibly important to adequately prepare yourself for a camping trip and familiarise yourself with survival techniques in the event of an emergency.

Food and Water
One of the most important things you need to bring on your camping trip is an adequate supply of food and water. In order to stay healthy, you need to consume at least two to three cups of water a day. This number goes up while in the great outdoors, so be sure to pack more water than you think you need. It is also a good idea to carry a water purification pump with you and iodine drops to add to water you come across in springs and ponds. When packing food for your trip, bring plenty of high-calorie foods that store easily such as granola bars, nuts, trail mix and canned foods. You might also want to consider packing some freeze dried emergency rations to keep in your backpack while out hiking.

Shelter
The problem with living out in nature, especially up in mountains, is that the weather can turn on you in an instant. Because of this, having adequate shelter is incredibly important. You will need a tent with waterproof exterior and a sleeping bag that is warm enough for the temperatures you will be experiencing. In addition to having a good sleeping arrangement, you will also need to think about what clothes you will bring. It's a good idea to pack lots of layers with you in case you experience colder temperatures than expected. Remember to have a rain coat or poncho, solid hiking boots and plenty of extra socks.

Survival Kit
Every time you go camping you should have a good survival kit to help you in any event. Things you need to include will be: waterproof matches, flashlights, batteries, Swiss Army knife, rope, lighters, compass, water purification tablets, whistle, map and extra clothes and socks. It is also vital that you have a first aid kit in the event of an injury. You can often buy ready-made first aid kits at local outdoor camping stores. These kits should include things like: bandages, gauze, antiseptic cream, pain killers, sunburn lotion, scissors, antibiotic wipes, tweezers, personal medication and hydrogen peroxide. Also, depending on when and where you are camping, you might want to consider packing a snake bite kit, hand warmers and goggles.

Camping can be a really fun, great adventure and a way to reconnect with the great outdoors. However, it can also be dangerous if you are not prepared for the elements and any emergencies. Because of this, make sure you go through your checklist of items to bring and make sure you are adequately prepared for your trip. This way you will ensure you have a really fun, safe time without worry or hassles.
