It is inherent in human nature to yearn for a change which would relieve him from the monotonous routine life. Man's search for novelty in life leads him to adopt hobbies like- gardening, fishing, camping etc which would add a touch of delight to his otherwise mundane life. Camping is an outdoor recreational activity, in which campers get away from civilization and enjoy nature at its best.

Just a few years back camping was thought to be a rugged affair as it was accompanied with sleeping outdoors in tents, cooking over fire,no proper sanitation available and a whole lot of other activities that was not quite usual in common day
life. Over the years the thought process of people has changed and people are indulging into camping more often.

Camping describes a wide range of activities. It is often done in conjunction with other activities, such as, hiking, swimming, and fishing. There are various types of camping like: Backpacking, Canoe camping, Bicycle touring, Winter camping, Workamping etc.

Man has realized that it takes a romantic and an adventurous bent of mind to consider camping as a vacation possibility for himself and his family. Its almost like residing in the lap of nature and enjoying its beauty and bounty to the fullest.

People are coming out of their rigid ideas and inhibitions and more and more individual seem to be taking part in outdoor activities such as camping etc.

It is not that camping is the kind of recreation which lies in the jurisdiction of grown up adults only.In fact schools, colleges and all other educational institutions are encouraging students to participate in camping and other outdoor activities. Such activities not only give youngsters freedom from the boredom of routine life in enclosed classrooms, but also make them self sufficient and independent in their approach towards life.

Being away from the cozy and protective shelter of their parents - children come to know the hardships of life, learn how sharing and caring for others is an essential part of life. They also come to know the essence of team spirit and team work. They explore new places, learn new things, do the undone, hear the unheard, walk an extra mile to achieve the unattainable, thereby enriching their life and widening their horizon of knowledge.

In short camping is not just an outdoor recreational activity nor is it a mere hobby or pastime. It is something much more than what the literal meaning of the word "camping" conveys. Truly camping is the path to goodness, enrichment and well being for all.
