4 Activities Your Kids Will Love in Cape Cod

2016/7/26 17:38:40

A lot of people think that "old people" are the only ones who take Cape Cod vacations. While the history and general laid-back atmosphere of the area certainly does appeal to the older generations, there are activities available for people of all ages. If you're planning a vacation to Cape Cod but are worried about whether or not your children will have fun there, consider these 4 fun activities that your kids are sure to love.

Fishing

Now, you may be thinking that fishing is an activity just for old men, but in Cape Cod, fishing is for everyone. There are companies in the area that offer fishing trips tailored specifically to appeal to children. You can take your kids on a fun-filled fishing adventure that they'll never forget.

The boats on these trips are actually former amphibious vehicles used by the military. If you don't know what an amphibious vehicle is, it is a vehicle designed to travel on both land and sea. That means that you'll climb aboard the boat from the street, then drive down to your fishing spot and straight into the water! This is a fun and unique experience that your kids are sure to enjoy.

Destination Plymouth

Plymouth was the location of America's first permanent settlement. The site was settled by colonists from England in 1627, and is the site where their ship, the Mayflower, landed in the New World. At Destination Plymouth, your kids will be able to climb aboard the Mayflower II, a replica of the ship that brought the Colonists to America.

They will also be able to explore a recreation of that first settlement, including a working recreation of the Jenney Grist Mill, which supplied the pilgrims with flour. They can also explore famous landmarks and see historical artifacts at the Pilgrim Hall Museum.

Though this destination is historical and educational, it offers an interactive look at the history of this area, which your kids are sure to enjoy. They'll have so much fun that they won't even know they're learning something!

Whale Watching

This is an activity that appeals to people of all ages. You and your children can climb aboard a sailboat and set out in search of the beautiful whales that frequent the waters around Cape Cod. Your whole family will marvel at the beauty and majesty of these massive ocean beasts as you watch them breach above the ocean waves.

Something about marine life always seems to excite children. Their eyes will be riveted on the sea as they search for signs of whales, seals, and dolphins. They will be able to learn about the marine life that lives in this area as they see the variety of animal species for themselves--humpback whales, Atlantic white-sided dolphins, minke whales, right whales, and killer whales, just to name a few. It is truly a unique experience they'll remember for the rest of their lives.

Bike Rentals

If you have kids who love to be outside and always seem to be on the move, then you may want to consider renting bikes and going on a family bike ride. There are bike rental shops throughout Cape Cod, because the area is simply made for bike tours. Your family can ride past the shops or along the beach and take in the scenery.

You can stop for lunch at any of the restaurants along the bike trails, or take a picnic to eat on the beach. Whether you bike for just a few hours or spend the entire day, your kids will have a fun and active day, and they'll be begging you to plan future Cape Cod vacations.
