The different routes to climb the tallest mountain of Africa

2016/7/26 17:44:06

There is nothing new in introducing Mount Kilimanjaro as the highest mountain of Africa. The mountain has garnered more attention not only due to its highest height factor but also because innumerable people show interest in climbing this height. This enthusiasm has been touted as most unique experience by the ones who have been the recipients in seeing the surroundings from the summit and have gone onto claiming that they have seen the curvature of the earth as well.

Kilimanjaro is regarded tough when it comes to facing the trekking challenges however, if you have had gone through training prior to the climb; you may not face as much turbulence as a non-trainee does. Even though the mountain is the highest yet Kilimanjaro is one of the most accessible high summits, a flare for the climbers who come here from all across the world. There are certain protocols that need to be made aware of and followed before the climb. Many climbers go for a crater rim that is more firm than a walking stick, dress themselves up appropriately for the climb and resolve to reach the pinnacle of the mountain without stopping. This determination is needed, especially when you are climbing a mountain for the first time in your life and not sure whether you would complete till the end.

What is more interesting in this climb is not just the aspiration to reach the above; the journey in itself is so interesting that one cannot think of turning back. The ascent of the slopes is like almost witnessing the change in the seasons that happen in nature and that too from very close. Climbing the Kilimanjaro Mountain hardly takes five to six days depending very much on your climbing pace. The initial ascent is fine but as it starts becoming steeper, the speed reduces automatically. The Marangu route is the most followed route owing to its being the oldest and well established. The minimum days required for this route is five as it is considered the easiest path on the mountain given its gradual slope. The Marangu route is favored the most during rainy seasons when the accommodations in huts are preferred the most.

The Machame route, on the other hand, holds more challenges if compared. It is intoxicating as it ascends through the forest on the southern side of the mountain until it reaches the Shira Plateau that is famous for its panoramic views across Western Breach and Kibo. Then there is Rongai route which is the only track to follow to reach Kilimanjaro from the North. More than the two routes above, this route is more scenic and has a high summit success rate. The Rongai route is also one of the quietest routes as it does not converge with any other route until it joins the Marangu for the ascent on the summit. It takes around six days through this route to reach the summit.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro also helps you in attaining climbing certificates that are issued by the Kilimanjaro national Park for successful climbers. You would always be guided to drink and eat considerably for whichever route you decide to take upon. Your health needs to be fit enough for the climb and to sustain the trivial problems till you reach the culmination point. even you need to feel like a climber and for that you and your body should be ready to confront the predicaments one generally faces while climbing mountains.
