Today it has become the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the most enormous and beautiful cities in India and is ranked 6th in terms of the population. Chennai is one of the most beautiful and unique cities in India in terms of its culture which is totally different from any other region in the country. The most endearing yet starling aspect of the city is its extreme newness which greets the travelers' eyes. Be it a new traditional art, dance, music, and all other art forms tourists are surely going to be pleasantly surprised as the stark difference it has with other Indian cities of its size. Marina beach is the most popular among these. This is 12km away from the heart of the city. It is the second longest urban beach in the world. MadrasUniversity, the ChepaukPalace and the Senate House are near to this Marina. Watching the sunrise from the beach is a must-to-do thing for the tourists, as they will find their inner souls reflected in the refreshing first rays of the sun. BreezyBeach and Edward Elliot's beach are also quite popular among the tourists.

Fort St. George: It was built by the British in memory of their first foothold in madras (now Chennai). Wallajah Mosque: In 1795, the famous Wallajah family constructed this big Mosque in memory of Nawab Muhammad Ali Walajah. Valluvar Kottam: It is an auditorium and a memorial of Thiruvalluvar. He was the writer of ‘Thirukkural'. GovernmentMuseum, GuindyNational Park, ArinjarAnnaZoologicalPark,NanmangalamReserveForest, The Birla Planetarium, GuindySnakePark and the NationalArtGallery are other important and popular places to visit in the city.
