Preparing for Winter Holidays

It’s that time of year again, when we eagerly pull out our parkas and skis, and prepare for the upcoming winter holidays. But before you pack that suitcase, and head off on your flight, it is important to take every precaution to be completely prepared while on holiday in the snow.

Proper Attire

The first thing you should be prepared for on your winter holidays is the weather. Extreme cold can catch even the most seasoned traveler unprepared if caution is not taken. Be sure that your luggage contains plenty of warm clothing, including long, thermal underwear to protect against sub zero temperatures. Also recommended are a down parka, thick gloves, scarves and hats, and plenty of clothes for layering in the event you become stranded in extreme weather.

Prepare Your Papers

It is important that you have all of your travel papers in order before you go on your winter holidays. This includes having passports and visas (if necessary) for each and every member of your family, as well as copies of important medical records in the event you should take ill while in another country or state. Be sure that if you take originals of your paperwork with you as you tour the countryside on your winter holidays, you have left copies of all important documents either in your hotel room, or in the hotel safe.

Be Prepared For Delays

Regardless of where you are traveling from or to on your winter holidays, it is an almost guaranteed certainty that you will at some point experience travel delays. If you are traveling with small children, who can become bored even in the best of circumstances, be sure that you have brought with you plenty of games, books, and small toys to keep them occupied during layovers. Older children may enjoy good books, board games, or even trivia games about whatever country you are visiting for the winter holidays. You can find many good ideas for these types of games online, as well as printable coloring pages for smaller children.

Know Your Traveling Conditions

Even if you have prepared for cold weather, and flight delays, it is still possible to be caught unaware when traveling for winter holidays. With so many countries experiencing political unrest, you should be sure to adequately plan ahead for any contingencies that may arise while in one of these countries on holiday.

Wherever you decide to go for the winter holidays, be sure that you have planned ahead for the small things that can arise, and you are sure to have a wonderful time!
