Full Time and Part Time Employment:

Some RVers seem to have arranged their Financial Affairs with such consummate finesse, they can afford to travel at will, with no worries about Funds, and still maintain a Comfy Home Base. (Doesn't this sound like: Cake and Eat it too?)

Home Base or no, if Your Expenses tend to regularly outflank Your Income, you may urgently need to find a sure and safe way to Balance the Battle.

If you lack the creature comforts of Independent Wealth, but you possess the Spirit of Adventure: Read on! Today, I explore the Problems of finding work suited to RV Life, provide Options, and share my Private Resources.

 

Traditional Jobs:

One way to get into a forward gear, right away, is to simply work at your current occupation, (first, perhaps to acquire your RV and the trimmings) with a future plan to eventually Retire on the Road.

If this kind of Long-range Plan is feasible economically, and it seems doable, it may suit you quite well. Making the transition from Home Baser to Full-time RVer will be a Great Good Adventure in itself!

Young, Old, or Middlin', as an RV Camper, you can indeed, freely work, and afford to travel about the USA: Coast to Coast, and Border to Border, performing a variety of ordinary, down-to-earth, Traditional Jobs, in almost any Industry – if you can develop and execute the right plan for you.

For Starters: Work is Work. You might just try to get on anywhere they will have you, doing whatever you do best. Migration for both RV and RVer, to Good Weather and Good Work, is a worthy, achievable ambition.

For Example: You could seek, find, and happily occupy, any of a Number of Profitable Positions in the Retail, or Hospitality Industries, anywhere. You could! (There is almost always Opportunity in Sales, and in the Restaurant Business.)

For Example, too: You could slot yourself neatly into Traditional Education, Management, Banking, Communications, Medical, Health, Real Estate, Computers, Entertainment: And maybe even find work as a Cabaret Performer!

Or, if you have Specialized RV Industry Skills, you could be an RV Technician or RV Mechanic, or even Rent or Sell RVs.

Of course the Real RVer Challenge here is: These kinds of Traditional Jobs are Not Really Portable!

In most cases, as an RVer, you must first Drive to a Geographical Location in order to get the Job. (And, worse-case, then: Commute Daily! More on Commutes in Part 2.)

  

Non-traditional Jobs:

Today, there are lots of Baby Boomin' Folks who want to Age in Place. If you are a Caregiver: You could provide Professional In Home Services.

Home Care and/or In Home Eldercare Services are designed to help solve many problems for retired and disabled Seniors.

If you possess Good People Skills, you could also be an RV Park Manager, or simply find Casual Serial Employment as a Work Camper, (Workamper) regularly securing Work Exchange Gigs in RV Parks, across America -- right from any Online Computer keyboard.

RV Camp Hosts are probably the most familiar, if not: The Defining Image of RV Park Occupations.

If you are up for the Call of the Wild, you might find really interesting, truly rewarding work with the National or State Park Service, or Camp Hosting, elsewhere in the Private Sector.

But, if you scratch the Non-Traditional Jobs Surface a bit, and go beyond the Call, you'll soon discover, there are scads more Work Camper Opportunities -- some Year Round, and some Seasonal.

One of the more unusual Work Camping Opportunities, is available from Amazon.com. It's called CamperForce. This, Mostly Seasonal Opportunity, requires your attendance at a Specific Locale in the US.

Alternately, if you have Marketable Telephone Skills, and a Computer with a Strong and Reliable Telephone/Internet connection, and a Robust Phone and Headset: You could operate a Home Customer Service Center, right from the Comfort of Your Own RV.

Suitably Skilled and Equipped, you could also be a Telephone Recruiter, or Telemarketer. If you have Real Life Experiences to reinforce your TeleResume, your submittal will definitely stand out.

Equally, you could be a Self-employed Farm Worker, Tinker, Tailor, Carpenter, or Travelling Handy Person, say. (The idea being, to work a Temperate RV Patch, then Follow the Sun, like RV Snow Birds do.)

Paid Employee or Self Employed: The Real RVer Challenge arises: These kinds of Work Camper Opportunities are not always by nature, Portable; or may not be at all Portable!

Though, similar work may be found most anywhere in the States, starting afresh in each new location -- establishing territory over and again -- takes time, effort, patience, and of course: Wherewithal.

 

Online Jobs:

Increasingly, the Computer-based Job Market is expanding, however incrementally, as many other Traditional Job Opportunities, are steadily shrinking.

According to a US Census Bureau Report, opportunities Work at Home, are growing, and will continue to grow, and diversify, even as American Companies and Corporations continue to Innovate and Downsize.

Today: Telework ranges from the most basic Non-technical, like Data Entry, to the extremely Technical: Computer Programming, Web Development, HTML Code Writing, and the like.

If you have the Equipment, (Computer and Internet) and Marketable Skills, (or wish to transfer or develop some) and a Resume, or Portfolio, you could also explore Internet Marketing, Web Copywriting and Graphic Design.

 

Computer Literate or Literati:

In 2014: Highly-skilled Internet Professionals are in constant demand, and accordingly, they command the Better Bucks. But, truth be told, to get on in the Virtual World, you don't actually need to be a Computer Wiz, at all!

In fact, Entry Level and General Computer-based Positions exist, and even abound! With a bit of Informational Technology (IT) Training/Internship on your CV or Resume, you might locate suitable work, remarkably quickly.

Telecommuting (or Teleworking) in Computer-based Industries is not uncommon. The Real RVer Problem may arise when you must choose between travelling for Best Weather, and travelling for Best Work.

 

Availability, Aptitude, Attitude:

Be clear: Competition for Online Work can be fierce, if not ferocious. (But, these days, that's nearly true about everything desirable, everywhere, isn't it?)

Opportunity absolutely favors the Prepared. Preparation, can and will, positively set: You Far Apart from the Masses.

If additionally, you can demonstrate: Focus... Commitment... Reliability... and Professionalism... you will get better work -- more often. In fact, over time, you may even earn a Sterling Reputation, and acquire Great References. You may!

TOT Advisory: Freelancing as a Writer or Graphic Artist, or Virtual Assistant at Odesk.com, Elance.com, CarreerGuru.com, and other Online Job Factories/Mills generally, will place: You in direct competition with Your Opposite Number(s) in The Third and Fourth Worlds!

Know Your Worth. Map out your Talents and the Territory. Go with Your Strengths! Always Decline Menial Work for Poverty Wages! Always!
